About Leah: Professional BioLeah Renee is a vocalist native to Southern California. Known for having considerable vocal range and control, Leah has the ability to perform in an extensive variety of musical styles. With her roots planted in choir and musical theater, she has spent the last 7 years broadening her performance experience by singing lead in a variety of corporate, casino, and wedding bands based out of San Diego County. She spends time recording in-studio with local producers and musicians, and regularly subs in other bands when lead vocals are needed on short notice. Her musical influences include: Led Zeppelin, Pat Benatar, Etta James, Stevie Nicks, David Bowie, Annie Lennox, Kristin Chenoweth, Ellen Greene, Joni Mitchell, Bette Midler, Billy Joel, Michael Jackson, Bonnie Raitt, Simon and Garfunkel, Chaka Khan, Lisa Fischer etc.
Leah currently sings lead for a variety of projects in the San Diego area: The Cheez Whiz Band, Kaleidoscope Acoustic, Soundwave Band, West of 5, and Rock the Choir. Leah still sits in with a number of other local bands as needed, including the groups--Groove Factory and FreezeFrame--that gave her her first opportunity to front high energy shows. About Leah: Fun BioBorn and raised in San Diego, California, Leah is a soul/rock vocalist who grew up singing in school choirs, into plastic microphones, and in the shower. Her parents invested a bunch of money in her young soccer-playing endeavors, including late night trips to the ER and reconstructive knee surgery, so she never asked for voice lessons even though singing and music were her first loves. She knew lessons were quite expensive.
After a bit of musical theater, years of karaoke, and snagging a lead vocalist spot in a working wedding/corporate band, she decided it was perhaps time to learn how to properly use her instrument. After completing the initial scales and warm-ups of the first lesson, her voice teacher stated, "Your range is more than 4 octaves." Leah stated, "Okay." Awkward pause. "Umm, Leah. People brag about that..." Leah gave this a think. Then (finally) understood. "Ooooooohhhhh," she answered, sheepishly. She continues to find ways to better herself as a singer and performer and is currently back in school to learn how to brand and market herself as an artist. Being an over-achiever means she'll never be satisfied with anything, which currently includes a dissatisfaction for writing music bios and speaking about herself in the third person. Always a work in progress. |
